Premenstrual use of venlafaxine appears to be an effective and well-tolerated treatment for premenstrual dysphoric disorder in a small preliminary trial, according to Lee S. Cohen, M.D., of Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, and associates.

Twenty women aged 18-45 years with documented premenstrual dysphoric disorder were enrolled in a single-blind, placebo phase (one cycle), during which they received a placebo 14 days before expected menses.
