How industry stocks fared from 9/1/99 through 9/30/99

September was the worst month of 1999 for long term care investors. The Raymond James LTC Index declined 8.3%, while Russell 2000 dropped only 1% and the NASDAQ Composite rose 2%.

Vencor filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Year-to-date, the stock prices of four nursing home operators--Integrated Health, Mariner Post-Acute, Vencor, and Sun Healthcare--fell 90%.
