All through 1998, many dealers asked my why Cooper Tire's stock was "not going anywhere" while the overall stock market was surging higher. Well, in 1998, Cooper's unit sales of tires actually dropped slightly while the overall market grew by 3%. But this year, Cooper is coming back strong as its volume in the first three months surged ahead by 10% while the industry grew 4%. And in case you haven't noticed, its stock is up 20% so far in 1999.
