I watched the Democratic National Convention and its official coronation of Senators John Kerry and John Edwards the same week my oldest daughter and I took in The Bourne Supremacy, a terrific action flick whose plot line detours sharply but enjoyably from author Robert Ludlum's novel. Fortuitous timing on my part.
Like the Jason Bourne character of the 1987 novel, the participants seemed to be battling amnesia. Where were the watchwords, the hosannas to the pro-abortion orthodoxy?
To loyal pro-abortion Democrats not in the know, it must have seemed as if somebody had stolen the party's identity as the political expression of the abortion-on-demand crowd, just as someone assumes Bourne's identity in the book. But, unlike Bourne, there is nothing for the abortion now and forever crowd to worry about. The party had not gone A.W.O.L.
Kerry and Edwards and the rest of the prime-time speakers in Boston have not forgotten where their true allegiances lie. Not for one second. But having learned their lesson from previous defeats, they crafted a script they hoped would fool the American people.
If you question this, just remember that the Abortion Establishment did not utter a peep of protest when abortion was barely mentioned in prime time. Their silence speaks volumes.
What do NARAL and Planned Parenthood and their friends know about abortion and Kerry/Edwards? That for the most pro-abortion team ever nominated by a major political party to show its true colors would be a huge mistake.
When you have to defend everything up to and including partial-birth abortion, mum's the word. In presenting their public face, much better to keep their 110% pro-abortion records private.
