ATLANTA -- The incidence of pregnancy-induced hypertension in the United States more than doubled between 1993 and 2000, national hospital discharge data show.
The alarming trend is of serious concern because pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) is a leading cause of maternal mortality in this country, Carma Ayala. Ph.D., said in a poster presented at a prevention conference on heart disease and stroke sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
