Want to give the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services a piece of your mind on how it should implement the new Medicare prescription drug benefit? Now's your chance.

CMS released its proposed regulations on the drug benefit in late July, with a 60-day open comment period. "We want to implement the law in a way that helps beneficiaries in the most effective and efficient manner," Secretary Tommy G. Thompson said at a press briefing sponsored by the Health and Human Services department.

One area covered by the regulations is how to design a formulary for the drugs to be covered under the benefit.

CMS is requesting input on how to implement the medication therapy management programs that plans will be required to institute as part the drug benefit. Programs will be designed to ensure that beneficiaries who have multiple, chronic ...
