LAS VEGAS -- Metformin may be a good first-line therapy for inducing ovulation in selected patients with polycystic ovary syndrome, Dr. Rogerio Lobo said at the Fifth World Congress on Controversies in Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Infertility.
Candidates for treatment with metformin are women who want to conceive and have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and a history of miscarriage or clomiphene resistance. Women who are obese and have metabolic syndrome may also benefit from metformin therapy, regardless of whether they are trying to conceive, said Dr. Lobo, professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Columbia University, New York.
