Police Challenge Mother's Account
Jerry Trujillo's mother asked that police be sent to his Espanola elementary school Thursday before officers handcuffed and arrested the eight-year-old boy, according to police reports released by the Espanola police chief Tuesday.
The reports challenge accounts of the boy's arrest -- which has attracted national news media attention -- provided last week by Jerry's mother and her attorney.
"Don't believe everything that you hear from the other side," said Police Chief Richard Guillen.
The police version of the incident suggests that Jerry's mother, Angelica Esquibel, acquiesced to her son's arrest for disorderly conduct because he was out of control and screaming. Esquibel appeared to be "very understanding" of the police action, one officer's account says.
