A report published in the July issue of the Journal of Studies on Alcohol indicates that harmful drinking is linked to a substantial number of U.S. deaths, Join Together Online reported. Researchers estimated that 63,718 U.S. deaths could be attributed to harmful drinking in 2000. Motor vehicle crashes were the most common cause of death for binge drinkers. Other common causes of death included homicide, suicide, alcohol poisoning and drowning for men, and homicide, hemorrhagic stroke, alcohol poisoning and suicide for women.
