I have read the Point and Counterpoint articles on lightning safety (May 2003) and feel that the Counterpoint author, Tom Griffiths, has his head in the sand. Let's also understand that he operates a facility (with four pools) in a state [Pennsylvania] where there are mandatory bonding and grounding inspections every three years. This is not the norm, and many of us are not required by code to meet this standard.
I agree that all facilities should have an electrical inspection at least every five years, but I cannot guarantee that this is occurring, or that in between the inspections, some construction work in the facility area has not undermined the grounding and bonding systems. Strangely enough, the state in which Dr. Griffiths works requires electrical inspections, but does not require licensure of pool and spa ...
