I am writing in response to the letter "Call for Action (June 2003).
Wendy Wallace states that "the persons answering 911 calls need to have the bigger picture in order to save lives." As a firefighter and emergency medical technician with over 30 years' professional and volunteer experience, and as an individual who responded to assist at the World Trade Center incident, I resent any implication that lives were lost because of the improper training of the 911 operators.
I have always advocated that aquatics facility managers and operators, aquatics and recreation professionals, and lifeguard instructors and supervisors need to establish a working relationship with the fire, rescue, law enforcement and EMS agencies within their areas.
