Investor Needed For the Franchise

Two Albuquerque women have started efforts to purchase a WNBA franchise for New Mexico.

Betsy Bailey and Deborah Gille are working to find financial backing to have a WNBA team playing in the Pit, possibly as soon as next year but more likely beginning in 2005.

''We've had numerous conference calls with the WNBA,'' says Bailey. ''We've done a lot of work on this. Now, we want to know if this is a good idea. We know what procedures we have to follow.''

Bailey says they have talked to University of New Mexico officials about using the Pit. The WNBA plays in the summer, which wouldn't conflict with the college basketball season. …
