Florida state prisons are taking in record numbers of inmates, with the largest increases occurring among convicted drug offenders, the Orlando Sentinel reported. People convicted of drug-related crimes account for the single largest group of offenders and most drug offenders in the prison system are repeat offenders, the newspaper reported. The Florida Department of Corrections took in 2,823 inmates in June and 2,899 in July, the highest monthly totals in over a decade.
