SALT LAKE CITY -- Breech presentation at birth was not associated with any significant differences in intelligence in 18-year-old men, compared with their counterparts who had a cephalic presentation, Dr. Martha Eide said at the annual meeting of the Society for Pediatric and Perinatal Epidemiologic Research.
Complications that may result from breech presentation and delivery include asphyxia, birth defects, and spinal cord injuries. Data on long-term outcomes of breech infants are limited, said Dr. Eide of the University of Bergen, Norway.
