Adult basic education isn't trendy.
But the areas it encompasses -- reading, English language literacy, necessary course work to receive a high school diploma and more -- make a tremendous difference for adults who, for whatever reason, didn't receive an education. Through ABE, people can learn everything from the fundamentals of spelling and math to preparing for the General Equivalency Diploma, or GED.
Northern New Mexico's rural areas, including parts of San Miguel and Mora counties, have a compelling need for these services because they have a greater percentage of adults who lack a high school education.
