Bernalillo High School art students got a leg up on their careers Thursday, courtesy of a $22,000 grant from U S West.
"I'm mostly stunned," said fine arts teacher Rick Humphrey, who with two other teachers wrote the grant proposal to buy video equipment for the school's Career Academy.
The grant was awarded by U S West in a surprise ceremony during a staff meeting early Wednesday. A grant had been awarded earlier this week to Cuba Elementary, and two others are expected to be named next week.
