If laughter is the best medicine, Rep. Ray Ruiz is going to get a good dose from his friends soon.

Comedy will be the theme for a show March 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Ladera Golf Course community room. Proceeds from the show -- $50 a seat, $500 a table -- will go to Ruiz, who is battling lung cancer. The money will help Ruiz with medical expenses, said J.C. Lopez, one of Ruiz's friends and neighbors on Albuquerque's West Side.

"Ray loves to laugh," Lopez said. "So when we were trying to come up with something to help him and his family, we came up with a comedy show."

Lopez, who will serve as the master of ceremonies for the event, said some of Albuquerque's up-and-coming comedians will perform.
