No Mercy For Stone 
 
   The sculptor tilted my head. 
   I must always listen to the dead 
   whisper under the grass. 
   Their voices are tireless and bitter, 
   and large as the wind. 
   I'm surrounded 
   by statues with broken 
   noses and wrists, 
   moss darkened faces. 
   The elements eat me like slow 
   cancer. My carefully painted 
   blue eyes and red lips …
