'98 Elections

BERNALILLO COUNTY

Bernalillo County Assessor David Kirk Anderson lost a tight race Tuesday for a shot at another four-year term.

Republican Kelly Alcon, a political newcomer, narrowly defeated J. Howard Deme, Anderson's chief administrative officer, according to unofficial returns. Anderson finished a close third for the Republican nomination.

The Democrats' race was even closer with former assessor Mark Carrillo ahead of Dolores Herrera by just a handful of votes.

And up to 150 paper ballots still had to be counted countywide, according to the County Clerk's Office.
