Thousands of elementary students to be moved for 2004-2005 school year

Nearly 5,000 elementary students in 23 schools are facing new school assignments next year under sweeping boundary proposals.

Albuquerque Public Schools plans to open three new elementaries in the 2004-2005 school year -- one in the Southeast Heights, another in Ventana Ranch and the third near West Central. It convened three committees to propose boundary changes.

The changes would ease overcrowding in West Side schools, some of which exceed 1,000 students, and would correct boundaries throughout the Northeast and…
