Viewpoint Securities began as an institutional trading house for hedge funds and money managers. As Wall Street bubbles burst and brand-name players folded under corruption charges, Viewpoint believed that there would be a growing market for an independent take on the market. To capitalize on this trend, Ron Coby and Emile LeMoigne expanded their services to include trading strategies and reports on public companies.
Since 2000, the Nasdaq has dropped some 400 companies from its listing and roughly 40% of former Nasdaq stocks have no formal coverage. Moreover, there was a growing interest among money managers to have non-biased research after the lid was lifted on A-list analyst scandals in what might become known someday as "the Post-Enron" years in the financial history books.
Viewpoint has profiled 172 companies since it opened its doors in Bend, Ore. in October 2000. Its growth stems mostly from clientele with whom they conduct commission-based business. "Our research has evolved over the years and we are getting to know what our clients want without giving away the farm," says Research Director LeMoigne.
