Founded 16 years ago, the firm has grown from a private equity placement operation into the largest investment bank in the Southwest. Its merger with the institutional branch of Sutro & Co. in January 2002 has helped it to build its research effort, with boutiques in Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York.
For Research Director and Analyst William C. Conroy the vision is clear: To continue to strengthen its research products by focusing only on those areas where the firm can provide the most value. "I have been focusing on building a department in select vertical markets," Conroy says. "We've had a core franchise in energy and we have added a focus that we have not had previously on the consumer side, starting with specialty retailing."
