Intel[R] architecture platform products: A microprocessor is the central processing unit (CPU) of a computer system. It processes system data and controls other devices in the system, acting as the "brains" of the computer. Intel offers microprocessors optimized for the desktop, mobile and server market segments. Chipsets perform essential logic functions supporting the CPU and extend the graphics, audio, video and other capabilities of many Intel processor-based systems. Motherboards combine Intel microprocessors and chipsets to form the basic subsystem of a PC or server Wireless communications and computing products: Intel provides component-level building blocks for digital cellular communications and other applications requiring both low-power processing and high performance, such as cellular handsets and handheld computing devices. For these markets, Intel offers flash memory, application processors based on the Intel XScale[TM] microarchitecture, and cellular baseband chipsets.
Networking and communications products: These products include network connectivity products based on Ethernet technology, wireless products based on the 802.11 industry standard, optical components built on industry-standard interfaces and network processing components that provide programmable building blocks for modular networking infrastructure. Intel also offers embedded control chips for use in imaging products, automotive systems and other applications.
Breaking Barriers to Moore's Law
Intel Chairman Emeritus Gordon Moore made his famous observation in 1965. In his original paper, Moore observed an exponential growth in the number of transistors per integrated circuit and predicted that this trend would continue. Through Intel's relentless technology advances, Moore's Law, the doubling of transistors every couple of years, has been maintained and still holds true. Intel expects that it will continue at least through the end of this decade. The mission of Intel's technology development team is to continue to break down barriers to Moore's Law.
