Schools prepared for crowding experienced few problems
It was back to school for some Albuquerque and Rio Rancho public school students Wednesday. And as expected, at least one West Side elementary was full on the first day.
Seven Bar Elementary opened at capacity as droves of parents and students made their way to the West Side school. A line of cars and a steady stream of parents and children on foot could be seen on Seven Bar Loop.
Plastic bags filled with paper towels, glue, crayons and other school supplies dangled from parents' arms. Students, with their new shoes and fresh haircuts, resembled turtles with large, stuffed backpacks slung over their shoulders.
Despite the crowds and the line to drop off students, parents seemed positive.
"They were very organized," said Kendra Rogers, who walked her first-grader to Seven Bar. "I was surprised because I had heard such horror stories."
