The Senate Health Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee unanimously appproved patient safety legislation July 23.
After several Congresses worth of trying and a spring filled with cancelled mark-ups, the panel approved a bill, S 720, that would allow health care providers to submit "patient safety data" on medical errors and near misses to "patient safety organizations." The PSOs would analyze the root causes of the problems and report on their findings, so that the health care community could learn from the mistakes.
