SEVILLE, SPAIN -- The clinical presentation suggested a benign, adnexal neoplasm. But histologic examination of punch biopsies from two of the papules showed that they were small, circumscribed, and limited to the superficial dermis. They were composed of strands and cords of basaloid keratinocytes associated with small, infundibulocystic structures.
The keratinocytes had small nuclei surrounded by pink cytoplasm. Rare apoptotic bodies were visible, but no mitotic figures were seen. The nuclei were arranged in a palisading pattern. No inflammatory response was seen. The stroma...
