The Food and Drug Administration has approved omalizumab as a treatment for people aged 12 years and older with moderate-to-severe persistent asthma.
Omalizumab, the first biotechnology product approved for asthma and the first product approved that targets immunoglobulin E (IgE), will be marketed under the trade name Xolair.
