I remember when I turned 15. Not exactly front-page news. A pizza, a hunk of chocolate cake, a few presents, play some ball with my buds, done deal. After all, when you're a teenager, 16's pretty cool, 18 is way cool. But 15?
However, 15 is much cooler for a magazine.
This is the 15th anniversary year of Aquatics International, which began in 1989 simply as Aquatics. We wanted to do something special to commemorate our milestone, something big for our readers in the July/August issue, which around the office we affectionately call "The Big Summer Issue."
What could be bigger than chronicling the history of our industry, we thought. So that's what we set Out to do. Well, it turned out to be the most challengjng/maddening/invigorating/demanding/enlightening/exhausting/ rewarding of experiences.
The result is what you now hold in your hands, the largest issue ever of Aquatics International. We travel from 7000 B.C. to the present, along the way running across the likes of Plato, Ben Franklin, Leonardo da Vinci, Ed Sullivan, Clara Barton, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Jonas Salk, Annette Funicello, a few emperors and kings, heck, even Tom Sawyer and I-luck ...
