COLORADO SPRINGS - The Mini-Mental State Examination can be shortened in a busy primary care practice while retaining good reliability, Dr. Laurence J. Robbins said at a meeting of the Colorado Chapter of the American College of Physicians.

The full Mini-Mental State Exam (MMSE) is a 12-item, 30-point instrument that takes 10-15 minutes to administer. That can be an awfully long time in contemporary medical practice, noted Dr. Robbins, a geriatrician at the University of Colorado, Denver.
