BALTIMORE -- New guidelines on the care of diabetes in adults older than 65 years recommend less frequent monitoring of hemoglobin [A.sub.1c] levels and less stringent [HbA.sub.1c] targets for some patients, according to an expert panel convened by the American Geriatrics Society.
Throughout the guidelines, which were released at the society's annual meeting, the panel recommends treatment goals and screening intervals that are tailored to each patient's clinical situation. The panel noted that for some patients, the recommendations will be tough to implement without causing more harm than good.
