MAUI, HAWAII -- Patients with primary nodular cutaneous amyloidosis can be reassured that progression to systemic amyloidosis is uncommon, Dr. John S. Walsh said at the annual Hawaii dermatology seminar sponsored by the Skin Disease Education Foundation.
That's good news, because systemic amyloidosis is a disease with a notoriously poor prognosis, with a median survival of just 1-2 years, observed Dr. Walsh of the Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, Fla.
