ANAHEIM, CALIF. -- With the success of blue light therapy for acne, researchers are exploring whether other light-based approaches, such as laser treatment or photodynamic therapy, could be even more effective.
Such treatments might not only produce better results than blue light, but could be easier and more convenient for patients, investigators said at the annual meeting of the Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. The necessary treatment sessions may be shorter and fewer.
Current practice with blue light acne therapy is to treat the patient twice a week for at least 4 weeks. Each session requires the patient to sit under the light for 15 minutes.
