NEW ORLEANS -- Want to improve patients' looks without buying a laser? Don't forget chemical peels, Dr. Ricardo Martinez said.
Speaking at a dermatology update sponsored by Tulane University, Dr. Martinez offered the following advice for applying several types of peels:
* Superficial TCA peels. Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peels go to the granular layer, or papillary dermis. Dr. Martinez's favorite solutions for superficial wounding are Jessner's solution and 70% unbuffered glycolic acid. Jessner's solution, a blend of resorcinol, salicylic acid, and lactic acid, is "the trinity of peeling," said Dr. Martinez, a dermatologist in private practice in New Orleans.
