A nonprofit agency criticized for its treatment of animals at a city of Las Vegas shelter is poised to receive a contract to provide shelter services for Clark County.
County administrators said the 10-year contract with the Animal Foundation will save taxpayers money, require the foundation to build an addition to the city's shelter, impose a $3,000-a-day penalty for mistreating animals and provide incentives for increasing pet adoptions.
The County Commission, which in February started talks with the Animal Foundation, is scheduled to consider the contract Tuesday. The contract would start in June 2005.
