THE FIRST SETTLERS WERE WOMEN. I don't care what you learned in school; I am telling you that the first settlers were women. If you were to step into a time machine and find the actual cradle of civilization, you would see them--women--settling.

It all started when the mother of us all bent down to tend to her cave floor, eyeballed her mate and sighed to herself, "He's not my type, but he's got fire and I'm tired of raw meat." Or, for you Christians, picture Eve chatting with the serpent while absentmindedly picking fruit from a tree: "I know he's not much, but he's promised to take me to paradise."

As evolved as we lezzies are, we're not far from our ancestors when it comes to picking our mates. Some gals think the hardest part is over when you realize you were meant to be with a girl instead of a guy. Ha! A good woman is easy to find; the right one is as hard to find as a clean glass at happy hour.

Now, when we talk about settling, I don't mean that the women we choose are...
