An F-16C Fighting Falcon from Cannon Air Force Base crashed near Fort Sumner on Tuesday morning, but the pilot ejected safely, base officials said.
Maj. Kevin R. Frisbie, a senior pilot with the 523rd Squadron ("Crusaders") of the 27th Fighter Wing, was on a routine training mission out of Cannon when he ejected from his single-seat plane.
The plane crashed at 9:13 a.m. about 30 miles southwest of Fort Sumner on the Double V ranch.
