Consolidation process continues, another round expected soon.(tire dealers)
With TBC announcing the acquisition of Carroll Tire, the consolidation process continues as I have expected. There are still several large dealerships where the age of the owner (like what happened at Carroll Tire), would suggest another round of asset sales occurring soon. I would expect to see some of these new retail/distribution giants attempt to go public in 1999 and in my opinion, the environment might be just right then for that to occur.
Monthly survey
A number of independent tire dealers were surveyed concerning current business trends. The results of the July 1998 survey are compared with those of July 1997.
