I thought your readers might be interested in learning of federal initiatives to increase the number of children being adopted into loving homes ("How to Prepare for Adoption," The Rest of Your Life, Dec. 15, 2004, p. 18).

In July 2002, President and Mrs. Bush unveiled an adoption photo-listing service on the Internet (www.adoptuskids.org). It features pictures and descriptions of children in foster care who need permanent homes, thereby creating new opportunities for children to be matched with families. To date, more than 4,200 adoptions have resulted from this valuable resource.

To help with the costs of adoption, the federal adoption tax credit has been increased to $10,000. Families who adopt children with ...
