VIENNA -- Despite unsightly local crusting, the topical imiquimod is effective, noninvasive, and a "very attractive drug," for the treatment of basal cell carcinoma, Reinhard Dummer, M.D., said at the annual meeting of the European Society for Dermatological Research.
But in a socially conservative community, such as the international banking center of Zurich, treatment can present certain challenges. "I have many patients who are bankers. They would never go to the office while using this drug because of the crusting and inflammation," Dr. Dummer said.
