TO SAY THAT MAJOR LEAGUE PITCHERS THROW IN fear of Ichiro Suzuki isn't entirely accurate. He's not the most dangerous hitter in the majors by any stretch. Nor does he get the most out of his hits, like a Barry Bonds, with a modest career slugging percentage of .443. But what is plainly obvious is that when Ichiro puts the ball in play, he's the hardest hitter in the bigs to retire.
If his major league best .372 batting average doesn't tell you so, let's set the scene for one particularly infuriating episode from last year, when Ichiro's bashing, slashing, slapping, dribbling, punching, lunging, topping, chopping hitting style drove one staff ace a bit batty.
