Why have the conservative voices emerged from the mouths of Democrats thus far this legislative session?
The only state senators to oppose a plan to double lawmaker salaries were five Democrats.
And Assembly Speaker Richard Perkins and state Sen. Maggie Carlton are leading the charge to return the state's surplus in a manner that actually takes into account how the state got it: through sales taxes.
Many Republicans are talking about spending the surplus. Meanwhile, Perkins, D-Henderson, and Carlton, D-Las Vegas, are calling for sales tax holidays, a period of amnesty from the sales tax which is 7.5 percent and about to rise in Clark County.
Amnesty days are best known in New York state, where for a blessed week (typically linked to back-to-school shopping) consumers get a break on everything they purchase, everything from the kiddies'...
