When the NCAA announces its 65-team field for its 2005 basketball tournament, don't expect to see a lot of teams from the western part of the country.
It has not been a great year for West Coast basketball, and that will be reflected in the field. Injuries, youth and underachievement have been factors in the lack of power from the six leagues that play in the west.
Barring upsets in the conference tournaments, only the Pacific 10 and the West Coast Conference figure to get multiple bids to the NCAA Tournament. The Pac-10 is looking at possibly three spots, and the WCC should get two.
Here's the way things appear to be breaking down league-by-league as we head toward Selection Sunday on March 13.
