Ohlins has a substantial advantage over most ATV shock absorber manufacturers due to its incredible research and development capabilities, with one research center in Jonkoping, Sweden, and another in Hendersonville, N.C. Both research centers have comprehensive measuring, data collating and simulation equipment to test Ohlins suspension systems. Unfortunately, the company hasn't really made ATV shocks a priority, and hasn't devoted as much of those R & D capabilities to this market as some would hope. That's about to change.
The history of Ohlins, like many in the industry, starts with the love of riding. In the 1970s, Kenth Ohlins' favorite pastime was motocross. His many hours spent riding on dirt tracks led him to the conclusion that motocross bikes had more engine power than their suspension could handle. Ohlins decided to improve the performance of his bike by improving the suspension.
