For 2005, the Pro class will have a sound decibel limit of 102 dB. Again, this is the Pro class only and does not affect amateur riders. The ATVA hopes this encourages pipe manufacturers to offer quieter pipes as tracks across the country are facing noise complaints and threats of being shut down.
AMA Pro Racing did some testing at the dirt bike nationals last season and the rumors are everyone failed to test below the limit. Look for this rule to get ugly this year as testing methods are challenged many times.
