Would there even be a national race at Red Bud this year? This was the question I asked myself as I sat in a race trailer that was rocking back in forth due to high winds and driving rain.

I helped a racer tear down his EZ Up just in time to bolt into this potential coffin. We looked at each other silently as the thunder boomed and the wind screamed. Oh well, we figured if a tornado ripped through the pits it would be a few moments of tools, tires and debris before the end. Gotta look on the bright side, you know?
When the storm passed and everyone emerged from shelter, it was clear that Friday's practice session was in doubt. It was also clear that the local Sam's Club would have a run on EZ Ups as vendor's row did not fare too well in the storm. A total of 10 EZ Ups on vendor's row were destroyed in the storm, not to mention countless others in the pits.

Friday night saw more straight-line winds and we woke up to reports of three people in the area dying in the previous day's storms. But heavy rain avoided the track and the racing was on. By Sunday, the track actually developed some nice blue groove and there was even a chance the water truck would have to come out to keep the dust down.
