I am writing in response to the story "Growing interest in nursing" in the March issue of Kai Tiaki Nursing New Zealand (p9). The head of the University of Auckland's nursing school, Heather Baker, is quoted as saying "We simply choose the best of these [applicant] students, the most academically able', citing the degrees already attained by several of this years intake.

I would submit that such perceived superior academic ability does not neccesarily make a good nurse. The "X ...
