At the University of Notre Dame, opposition to the granting of an honorary Doctor of Laws degree to commencement speaker Barack Obama, president of the United States and the nation's most prominent proponent of abortion "rights" and embryonic stem-cell research, was intense, both within and beyond the borders of the impressive South Bend campus.
