DATUK Deva Mohd Ridzam's commentary, "No longer the envy of the diplomatic world" (NST, June 21) should be a cause for concern not only for Wisma Putra but also for the civil service.

Being a veteran diplomat, he should be in a position to assess the current crop of diplomats and draw parallels with his peers. Even Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the core principles that had underlined our foreign policy had stood the test of time and changes in leadership. This is indeed a tribute to our diplomats of the past.
