Prices for knee implants declined for the second straight year, reflecting stronger group purchasing contracts and a measure of product standardization and physician cooperation in hospitals.
According to the 2009 HMM Price Survey, based on reports from The ECRI Institute in Plymouth Meeting, PA, prices for knee implants manufactured by major producers have dropped an average of 2.4% over the past 12 months. The result marked more price slippage after 2008 prices eased 0.6% compared with 2007 levels.
