Babcock & Wilcox has introduced a new nuclear reactor, called the mPower--for its modular design that can be sold in125-megawatt increments. The reactor has a five-year operating cycle without the need for refueling. The maker of the famed Three Mile Island facility has created a new company to sell the unit: B&W Modular Nuclear Energy LLC. The advanced light water reactor plant will have an underground containment, can utilize up to 10 or more units, and will be manufactured at facilities in Virginia, Ohio and Indiana. It will be shipped by rail to construction sites.
